Our symbol

The lapwing is one of the oldest symbols of Sardinian tradition: as reported by various sources, its origins date back to ancient times, around 534 AD, when the island was under Byzantine rule.

It is a very ancient amulet linked to nature and symbolises fertility and abundance, invoking bountiful harvests, plentiful rain and good health.

In Sardinian tradition, lapwings were carved into the wedding chest – the piece of furniture that held the bride’s dowry – as a good-luck charm, to wish the newlyweds fertility, abundance and health for their life together.
